Per tradition, San Jose hardcore band Rivals host their annual Halloween show-their 12th year, at Johnny V's. Rivals have been kicking around San Jose for more than a decade, and while they've played many cool venues, and opened up for many punk rock and metal heavyweights (Misfits, Prong, the Dickies), their Halloween shows remain their most fun. The band dresses up in some goofy, fun costumes—last year's farmer theme included band members dressed as a cow and a carrot, and in previous years they've also dressed up as oompa loompas, WWF wrestlers, droogs from A Clockwork Orange and even the shower costume from The Karate Kid. And of course the audience participates as well with some even more creative costumes. Down N' Durdy, NVS and Relapse open the festivities. (Amulya Datla)
