THE RICHARD SEARS TRIO

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Black Cat (see times)

“Sears’ pianistic concept is fully realized, with an austere, Brahms-ian chordal sense and clarity of purpose in his improvised melodies. His confidence boosted by the implicit affirmation of inclusion in bands by Billy Hart, Mark Turner, Ben Street, Tootie Heath, and Roy McCurdy, Sears has successfully migrated to Brooklyn and recorded his debut, Skyline, on the well-respected label Fresh Sound Records.” – Gary Fukushima | LA Weekly
Brooklyn-based pianist, Richard Sears, possesses an original voice as an improvisor and composer. As a performer, Richard has appeared with the Billy Hart Quartet (ft. Mark Turner and Ben Street), the Muhal Richard Abrams Orchestra, Joshua Redman, Chick Corea, Ralph Alessi, Eric Revis, and others. His most recent release, “Altadena”, features the legendary drummer, Albert “Tootie” Heath performing with Richard’s sextet. “Altadena” earned 4 stars in Downbeat Magazine, naming it one of the Best Albums of 2017. His forthcoming release, Iron Year, features music composed since his move to Brooklyn in 2015. Richard continues to perform and teach internationally, and curates the “Open Ground” performance series in Brooklyn to promote the work likeminded artists connected to the greater Prospect Park area.
