The Power of Personal Storytelling: An Afternoon Workshop

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Madam Racecar (see times)
Note: This is a 21+ event, held at a bar. Drinks available for purchase.
Your life’s story is a superpower — so start using it as one!
My father is a great storyteller. Whenever he regales people with a tale or anecdote of his many adventures, he commands the room and keeps everyone engaged. His mastery of telling stories has made him more memorable and loved as a person, and more successful and respected in his career—so naturally, I wanted to be a great storyteller too, but unfortunately I wasn’t really good at it.
Then one day he told me his secret, and it changed my life. The secret was…
What you’ll learn in this workshop!
(Actually, the secret is below)
Yes, great storytelling is about keeping your audience in suspense. But storytelling is much more than “just” an art form for entertainment: storytelling is a powerful tool for personal development and for having better, more connected relationships with other people. Lastly: storytelling is the best way to communicate the value of an idea or product in a short amount of time.
I’ll tell you right now, the ‘secret’ is quite simple: be like Nike and just do it. But how do you find the right stories of your life to tell, and how do you actually tell them well? And how does any of this make your story a superpower?! Bold claim, but I promise I’ll deliver, because all of those things are what you’ll learn in this workshop, along with many everyday life skills that help you:

feel comfortable and confident telling stories on the spot;
build confidence in yourself and become more magnetic;
improve your creativity and problem-solving skills;
boost your memory and learning capacity.

There are many career-related benefits, too! You’ll learn how to:

make a more memorable and lasting impression;
become more effective at selling your products or ideas;
command an audience and earn greater respect from peers;
inspire people to action, including yourself!

I’m gonna get all of that just from telling stories?!
Well… no. Not just from telling stories.
You’ll be learning all of these skills as a part of a larger framework called Love First, which teaches tangible everyday practices and tools that build better habits, and give you all the benefits above—and plenty more. Storytelling is a fundamental part of practicing the Love First framework and its principles, and it requires knowing the foundations of story and narrative structure to make it something you do intuitively, without having to constantly think about it.
You’ll learn the Love First storytelling formula, which includes elements like:

the architecture of a story, and a more useful version of the famous three-act structure;
the difference between story and narrative, and how this affects your everyday life (a lot);
the ‘magic’ ingredients to make a story compelling and resonate more strongly with other people;
finding the happy medium between bragging or showboating and coming across as a martyr who’s looking for sympathy.

Storytelling is our primordial method of learning. We remember life skills and lessons better in the form of a story, and stories are more relatable than information by itself. By telling our personal stories, we connect more deeply with one another, understand each other better, and build stronger communities. In this workshop, you’ll learn to take full advantage of all of that.
This sounds great! How can this 3-hour workshop be free?
One of the principles in the Love First framework is Create and Gift. It’s in that spirit that I am making this brand new workshop available for free, so that anyone can participate. At the end, we’ll have a “Pay what you Want” segment where you can pay using Venmo, SquareCash, or Apple Pay, or make a tax-deductible donation via Fractured Atlas. How much you pay is up to how much you thought the workshop is worth, after having experienced it.
Think of seeing payment as a reward, instead of a barrier to entry.
Okay but seriously, how much?
Depending on how many people show up to this workshop, the break-even price for me will hopefully be around $30 to $40 per person. So, invite your friends along and make it cheaper!
