“... an incomparable performer.†– The New York Times
Pedrito Martinez, a native of Cuba, has been performing as a percussionist and singer since he was eleven-years-old. Now based in New York City, Martinez has established himself among the musical elite, gigging with Paquito D'Rivera, Joe Lovano, pop star Sting, and touring with the high-energy Afro-Beat group Yerba Buena. As the leader of his own band, Martinez’s compositions draw heavily on the Afro-Cuban tradition of rumba and guaguanco. He's ably assisted by Jhair Sala on percussionm, Alvarado Benavides on electric bass, with Ariacne Trujillo on keyboards and vocals. The New York Times describes the music as “complex, blenderized Africa-to-the-New World funk... he's an incomparable performer.â€
