Lisa Moore, piano; Karen Bentley Pollick, violin; Joel Davel, percussion & marimba lumina; Paul Dresher, quadrachord & electric guitar
Contemporary acoustic and electro-acoustic works by composers Paul Dresher, Martin Bresnick and John Adams performed by a quartet combining violin, piano, electric guitar, percussion and invented musical instruments by Don Buchla and Paul Dresher.
The Paul Dresher Ensemble Double Duo joins former Bang-On-A-Can pianist and contemporary music virtuoso Lisa Moore with long-time Dresher Ensemble members Karen Bentley Pollick, Joel Davel, and Paul Dresher on an innovative program of duos, trios and quartets. Featured on the program will be the world premiere of Dresher’s first work for the Double Duo—a work evolved from his acclaimed Concerto for Quadrachord & Orchestra that he recently premiered with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra; John Adams' vibrant violin/piano duo Road Movies; the Bay Area Premiere of the quartet arrangement of Martin Brensick’s Fantasia on a Theme By Willie Dixon—a Brahamsian-imbued fantasy inspired by the 60’s super-group Cream’s fantastical improvisations on one of the great bluesman’s iconic riffs; as well as selections from some of Dresher’s most lyrical acoustic duos and trios such as Double Ikat and Elapsed Time.
