THIS EVENT HAS ENDED
July 9 -11, 7pm to 9pm and July 12, 5pm to 7pm, Pacific time

A Black student and her white Ivy League professor meet to discuss a paper about slavery's effect on the American Revolution. What begins as a polite academic debate of perspectives at a liberal arts college explodes into an intergenerational clash to define "truth" when history is up for grabs. Written in 2016, The Niceties is a timely story during the radical revolution playing out across the nation. The Niceties will stream LIVE Thursday, July 9 through Sunday, July 12 on Zoom.

Set in 2016 during the primaries, there is an acute dramatic irony present throughout the piece. Playwright Eleanor Burgess says, "We know the stakes of liberals not agreeing with each other and not being enthusiastic about the same things. We know the consequences of a white woman failing to win over people who aren't white and the consequences of a woman in her 60s failing to win over a millennial. We also know more than they do about how far Americans are willing to go to defend their beliefs about America and their understanding of race in America. We also know how much they're going to lose and how dangerous the world is going to get for both of them."

Tickets are pay-what-you-can starting at $8. The play features Regina Monique and Scarlett Hepworth, with direction by Leigh Rondon-Davis and a script by Eleanor Burgess.

$8.
