The Museums of Los Gatos presents American Bohemia: The Cats Estate in Los Gatos- Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The Museums of Los Gatos presents American Bohemia: The Cats Estate in Los Gatos on exhibit October 19, 2013 – April 20, 2014. This exciting exhibition explores the storied lives of C.E.S Wood and Sara Bard Field, acclaimed literary figures and intellectuals and builders of the Cats Estate, a Los Gatos landmark.

In 1924, writer and lawyer C.E.S. Wood and poet and suffragette Sara Bard Field built an estate in the hills above Los Gatos. Dubbed "The Cats" after the 8-‐foot cat sculptures that graced the front entrance, their home also served as a creative retreat for Wood and Field until the mid-‐1950s. The Cats Estate became a gathering place for some of America's most significant artists and writers including Robinson Jeffers, Ansel Adams, John Steinbeck, Ralph Stackpole and Lincoln Steffens.

For the first time in history, visitors will have the opportunity to watch family home movies from the Cats Estate. The exhibition will also include audio oral history interviews with Sara Bard Field, and artifacts, furniture, rare photographs, letters and books from the Estate and the families.
