The Mirage Ensemble

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The program features Gentle Creatures by Molly Joyce (West Coast Premiere), I Never Saw Another Butterfly by Oboe Lee, Wings by Joan Tower, Sonata for clarinet and piano by Leonard Bernstein, and a medley of favorite Gershwin melodies arranged for soprano and clarinet by Mirage Ensemble.

Virtuosity combines with innate theatricality in the beautiful musical renderings of The Mirage Ensemble, A Bay Area Musical Treasure now in their 18th year of music making. This program features vivid storytelling and celebrates great American composers of song through the unique prism of soprano, clarinet and piano: the West Coast premiere of Gentle Creatures, by rising young New York composer Molly Joyce, I never saw another Butterfly, by Thomas Oboe Lee, a powerful piece composed to texts penned by children who perished at the Teresienstadt Concentration Camp, and the striking clarinet solo Wings, by Joan Tower. Also featured on the program is music by the incomparable Leonard Bernstein and a nod to the great American Songbook in a selection of witty arrangements of Gershwin standards. Enjoy these gems from ends of the musical spectrum that offer something for everyone.
