The Mentors

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Apart from GG Allen, one of the most controversial and perhaps vile characters in rock & roll was El Duce, former drummer and lead singer of metal band, the Mentors. He and the rest of the band wore executioner masks (which often got mistaken for Klan masks) and identified themselves as the "kings of sleaze rock." Their lyrics were truly offensive, usually of the sexual nature, and El Duce was fond of masturbating on stage and even urinating into the crowd. Unlike GG Allen, who was truly disturbed, the whole thing seems like some kind of warped performance art piece. El Duce died in 1997 (he was hit by a train!) but the Mentors continue on to this day. Shortly before his death, El Duce appeared on a "shock rock" episode of Jerry Springer alongside Gwar, who even expressed offense at El Duce. (Aaron Carnes)
