Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce “The Language of Flowers”, an international group exhibition inspired by flowers and their hidden meanings.
The language of flowers, sometimes called floriography, was a Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing people to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. This language was most commonly communicated through “tussie-mussies”, small flower bouquets, an art which continues to have a following today. In addition to floriography, Hanakotoba is the Japanese form of the language of flowers. In this practice plants were given codes and passwords, meant to convey emotion and communicate directly to each other without needing the use of words.
Our participating artists have used these floral cues to create symbolic meaning in their works. Featured artists are Redd Walitzki, Nicomi Nix Turner, Cory Benhatzel, Lacey Bryant, Miguel Gonzalez, Archer Dougherty, Henry Schreiber, Daisy Church, Christopher Umana, Rudy Fig, Sergio Lopez, Catherine Moore, Brenton Bostwick, Amy Minchew, Joseph S. Kohls, Leilani Bustamante, Sakuna Daring, Chelsea Brown, Chris Sedgwick, Lara Dann, James Marc, Melissa Hartley, Corey Urlacher, Erica Calardo, Marie Larkin, JoKa, Emily Burns, Eve Skylar, Layil Umbralux, Kieran Collins, Emilio Villalba, Courtney Blazon, Corine Perier, Shannon Amidon, Akira Beard, Debra Gardner Abarca, Steven Suiter, Tara Krebs, Cody Vrosh, Melissa Morgan, Kassie McMahon, and Erika Sanada.
The opening reception for "The Language of Flowers” will be held at Modern Eden Gallery on Saturday, May 11th from 6-10pm. Select featured artists will be in attendance at the reception. The exhibition will be on display through June 15, 2013 and is free and open to the public.
