The JurassiC

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Cafe Stritch (see times)
Jackie Gage, singer for San Jose's the JurrasiC, seems to be channeling both Ella Fitzgerald's crystal-clear, radiant tone and Etta James' soulful voice, which is appropriate considering that musically, the JurassiC rests evenly in classic jazz and soul. The backbone of the band is purely a jazz one, but the grooves are all flavored with funk, hip-hop and soul elements. It's all mixed up smoothly and makes for some mellow, yet passionate music. This Friday, they release their new EP, Follow Me, which shows remarkable improvement in musicianship since their prior effort, and is a little heavier in the jazz realm than before. The way Gage and keyboardist Bennett Roth-Newell play off each other is a pleasure to listen to.
