The Ivory Club Boys, an offshoot of the Hot Club of San Francisco, pay tribute to jazz violinist Stuff Smith and his Onyx Club Boys of the mid-1930s. One of a handful of violinists to populate the swing era, Stuff Smith is credited with being the first to play jazz on an electrically amplified violin, forever changing its role to a frontline solo instrument on par with horn soloists. With Paul Mehling on electric guitar, Isabelle Fontaine on rhythm guitar/vocals, Evan Price on electric violin, Marc Caparone on trumpet, and Sam Rocha on bass this hard-swinging group performs classic, as well as obscure, numbers that were Stuff's trademark. Fans of traditional jazz will especially enjoy this concert.
