ALABAMA MIKE:
Michael A. Benjamin aka. Alabama Mike was born January 31, 1964 in Talladega Alabama. Influenced by the gospel singing of his father, he was encouraged along with his five siblings to begin singing in church at a very early age. He came to California in 1983 via a military hitch in the USN which landed him in the San Francisco Bay area. Several years down the road as he soaked up what he could learn from blues records and local blues acts, he started performing the blues professionally in 1999. His first record Day to Day officially broke him into the blues music scene in 2009. In 2010 he followed with a sophomore offering which is titled Tailor Made Blues. This release garnered five star reviews in all the major blues magazines and airplay worldwide. He has shared the stage with such blues greats as Kim Wilson and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, John Primer, Lurrie Bell, Steve Freund, Bobby Rush, Johnny Rawls, Filmore Slim, RJ Mischo, Dewayne Wiggins, Willie (Big Eyes Smith) and many others and has played several national festivals and concerts including the Poconos Blues Festival, Reno Blues Festival, among others. He has been awarded 2010 Blues New Artist Of The Year ~ Bay Area Blues Society, 2010 Nominee Blues Blast Magazine Beat New Artist Debut Recording, 2011 Nominee Blues Foundation ~ Blues Music Award Traditional Blues ~ Male Artist Of The Year.
SCOT BRENTON:
Multi-insturmentalist, producer, recording engineer and record label owner Scot Brenton has been working out of San Francisco since his move to the bay area in 1992. An original member of the Rusty Zinn Band, he has been fortunate to have worked with some of the blues greats, including members of The Muddy Waters Blues Band, Pinetop Perkins & Willie”Big Eyes” Smith. He has also backed numerous blues legends including Hubert Sumlin, Snooky Pryor and Nappy Brown, performing at festivals and clubs worldwide. After a two year stint with renowned guitarist Steve Freund, Scot moved to Europe were he pursued an interest in music technology, studying at one of London’s top recording arts schools, Alchema. In 2007 he returned to San Francisco and founded 9 Below Productions, a production company, record label and recording studio. In addition to recording credits with Steve Freund, Alabama Mike, Norwegian Diva Noora Noor, Dave Earl and British Artist Stravener, Scot has engineered, mixed or mastered recordings for Elvin Bishop, RIck Estrin and the Nightcats, Paul Oscher, The Backyard Boys, Mark Hummel, Kid Anderson, and Maria Muldaur. Scot has co-produced records for Rusty Zinn, Steve Freund and Alabama Mike. He is currently working with the the Hound Kings, an acoustic blues trio he co-founded with Alabama Mike and Anthony Paule in 2012. Their new record "Unleashed" will be available in April 2013.
ANTHONY PAULE:
Anthony Paule, has spent the major part of his career in the supporting role. Since 1987, he’s recorded and toured with the likes of Earl King, Brownie McGhee, Charlie Musselwhite, Bo Diddley, Jody Williams, Johnny Adams, Maria Muldaur, Tom Rigney, Johnny Nocturne, Brenda Boykin, Boz Scaggs, Doug Jay, Phil Guy, Faye Carol, Johnnie Johnson, Mark Hummel, Big Jay McNeely, Louisiana Red, and Tommy Ridgely. He’s performed at the du Maurier Jazz Festival, in Vancouver, B.C.; the Victoria Jazz Festival, Victoria, B.C.; the Monterey Jazz Festival; the San Francisco Blues Festival; Summerfest, Milwaukee; the Sacramento Blues Festival; Juneau Jazz Festival, Alaska; The 1996 Summer Olympics, Atlanta; Mississippi Valley Blues Festival; Eureka Springs Blues Festival; The Waterfront Blues Festival, Portland; Bumbershoot, Seattle; Umbria Jazz Winter Festival, Orvieto, Italy; Umbria Jazz Summer Festival, Perugia, Italy; Massa Maritima Blues Festival, Italy; Bordighera Blues Festival, Italy; Charleroi Blues Festival, Ecaussinnes Spring Blues Festival, & Negar Blues Festival, all in Belgium; Amsterdam Blues Festival; Monterey Jazz Festival in Wakura, Japan; Yapi Kredi Youth Festival, Istanbul, Turkey.
BIG GUITAR, Anthony’s first solo CD, introduced him as a songwriter. Blues fans and critics alike had nothing but praise for this release. The track “After Hours with AP” is on the soundtrack for the HBO feature film Just Write. The follow-up to Big Guitar, HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT, was released in 2001, again meeting nothing but praise from critics. This release made the Living Blues Magazine radio charts and stayed there for three months. Three tracks from this CD “Don’t Let The Same Dog Bite You Twice”, ”Drownin’ In The Mainstream” and “Goin’ Home”, are included in the sound track for Italian feature film “Amarsi Puo Darsi”. In September of 2001, Washington DC radio stations WPFW, used the title track “Hiding in Plain Sight” as a lead-in to a talk show discussion about terrorists in the U.S. Both releases continue to get international airplay. Anthony, has toured the U.S., coast to coast and back, several times as well as, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, & Japan.
