Scott Nichols Gallery is pleased to announced “The Golden State,” an exhibition of photographs of California from the advent of photography to the present day.
The Golden State, photographs from California, features works from 1865 to the present. This exhibition includes original mammoth plates by Carleton Watkins and photogravures by Edward S. Curtis as well as early prints from the studios of H. C. Tibbitts, Isaiah Taber, George Lawrence, Gabriel Moulin, Eadweard Muybridge and others. The Golden State follows the history of California through the devastation of the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, the felling of the great Redwoods, the FSA, and the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. This exhibitions also includes many classic photographs by Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham and the other f64 photographers as well as contemporary works by San Francisco Bay Area photographers Michael Rauner, Cecilia Borgenstam, Harry Wilson, Ben Nixon, Jim Banks, Niniane Kelley, Rolfe Horn, Monica Denevan and others.
