The Gift of Calligraphy: Class in San Francisco

SEE EVENT DETAILS
I am excited about this class and hope that you will be able to join me for a very special (and rare) workshop at one of my favorite art stores in San Francisco, Arch Art & Drafting Supply. Arch is more than your typical art store, it is one of my go-to places for gifts, calligraphy supplies and inspiration as listed in the "sources" section of my book.  This 3.5-hour workshop is in conjunction with the recent publication of my book "The Gift of Calligraphy: A Modern Approach to Hand Lettering with 25 Projects to Give and to Keep". The workshop will allow you to experiment with different tools and colors that I have talked about in Chapter 3 of my book "Experimenting with Colors and Materials".
Please don't worry if you don't have any experience with calligraphy. This class is designed for the complete beginner, as well as for those who have some practice underway. The idea is less about creating perfect calligraphy and more about experimenting. There will be a demonstration on how how I create my letterforms using an assortment of a different nibs and brushes. You will have time to practice making marks and calligraphy.  Halfway through the class, there will a demonstration on how to mix and incororate colors. You will have an opportunity to practice more using your own custom mixed ink color, and then make a beautiful mess. Just remember there are no mistakes only happy accidents.
Each person will go home with a signed and personalized copy of my book along with all the supplies that you will need to continue to practice on your own. The kit includes a wooden holder with 4 different colored inks: sumi ink, walnut, white ink, and a colored ink , 1 calligraphy pen ( this holder holds different sized nibs) 1 Kuretake brush pen, 1  bamboo tool, 1 bamboo brush,  and  lots of inspiration to continue your practice on your own. (Book and all Materials valued at $75)
About the artist: Maybelle Imasa-Stukuls
With over 15 years of experience, she  has been commissioned for bespoke wedding invitations, editorial features, and licensed products, exhibiting her elegant and playful signature style for a range of clients. Her work has appeared in Martha Stewart Weddings, Sunset Magazine, Victoria, Better Homes and Gardens, and Brides, and has been featured on Design*Sponge, Besotted, Brooklyn Bride, Oh Happy Day, Snippet & Ink, Sunday Suppers, and Style Me Pretty.
Drawing inspiration from her botanical engravings, vintage alphabet specimens, and her numerous travels abroad, Maybelle has been known to journey to Paris for just the right calligraphy nib. Her love of calligraphy and ephemera inspired a few collaborations such as “Belle Calligraphy Kit” published in 2015. She developed "Calligraphy in the 21st Century", a popular San Francisco workshop as a way to share her passion with the creative community. She has taught her workshop in Brisbane, Honolulu, Jaipur,  Los Angeles, Melbourne, New York, Portland, Sydney and Tokyo. "The Gift of Calligraphy" is her second publication.
Maybelle is from Kaneohe on the island of Oahu and currently lives in the San Francisco Bay area with her husband and twins.
