The Feminist School of Painting (workshops)

SEE EVENT DETAILS
This fall, KADIST presents The Feminist School of Painting, a project with the Buenos Aires-based painter Ad Minoliti, which will transform KADIST's galleries into an active classroom. In collaboration with a group of Bay Area artists, scholars, writers, and teachers, Minoliti will lead free weekly workshops centered around a traditional painting genre: portraiture, still life, or landscape, for example. Each workshop will combine discussion and studio painting instruction to reimagine historical narratives related to the week’s genre. By incorporating her collaborators’ diverse backgrounds in biology, science fiction, gender studies, technology, and more, the workshops aim to promote accessibility and curiosity over any art-specific expertise. Rooted in Minoliti’s practice, The School will also employ feminist queer theory and experimentation as a foundation for learning and experimentation.
The free workshops are held every Saturday (October 6–November 17) at KADIST from 1–3pm. The workshops will consist of one hour of discussion and one hour of painting, with optional open studio time until 5pm (which the artist will stay to facilitate) and all workshop materials are included. Participants don’t need any specific art-making experience or education (but can be a practicing artist or arts professional), and should be high school age or older. The only real requirement is that you are curious and interested in art!
