The Feminine Face of the Sacred: Urban Pilgrimage at Grace Cathedral

SEE EVENT DETAILS
As a culture, we have begun to seek, retrieve and integrate the feminine, receptive archetype. We search for both the female images of the major spiritual traditions and the qualities of feminine archetype: receptivity, inclusivity, and fierce compassion. We long to see her face in our churches and in our traditions.

Join us to explore the feminine face of the sacred down through history. Through lectures, meditations, writing practice, ritual and music, we will seek Her face. Each evening we will conclude our exploration with a private candlelit labyrinth walk in the glorious nave of Grace Cathedral. You will be encouraged to explore your pilgrim's soul and understand how the inspiration of this holy place can help in your search for the sacred and nourish your spirit.

Historic Grace Cathedral located atop Nob Hill honors feminine faces that have nourished people for centuries. Along with depictions of Mother Mary, the Icon of Mary Magdalene by Robert Lenz, dedicated to the installation of Barbara Harris as the first woman bishop in the United States, the murals that capture Hildegard of Bingen and Julian of Norwich as well as the last window to be installed in this cathedral—the Birth of Creation—serve as symbols of sacred feminine.

Be our guest in the beauty and grandeur of Grace Cathedral as we explore the Feminine Face of the Sacred.
