The Drowsy Chaperone - A Musical Comedy

SEE EVENT DETAILS
PLEASE MARK YOU CALENDARS for our spectacular musical production of "THE DROWSY CHAPERONE," winner of FIVE TONY AWARDS. We'll be on stage with FULL, LIVE ORCHESTRATION at the Louden Nelson Theater in downtown Santa Cruz January 24th–February 1, 2014. Performers from all over the County will be singing and dancing in this fun and wacky "Musical within a Comedy".

We are so very fortunate to have the most extraordinary and professional team of DIRECTORS for this main-stage production:

Artistic Director, LINDSEY CHESTER
Director, DAN CATO WILSON
Co-Director/Choreographer, ANGELIC NAVARRO
Musical Director, DANIEL GOLDSMITH
Production Manager, BRIE MICHAUD

"DROWSY CHAPERONE" SHOW SYNOPSIS:
First, you'll meet the Man in Chair inside his New York City apartment; he serves as the narrator and says aloud what we have all thought about while seeing a live show. He opens with some theater jokes like quips about cell phone interruptions and relevant improv. Then he shares his favorite cast album from an old 1920s fictional hit, "THE DROWSY CHAPERONE." As the record plays, the Man's apartment is transformed and the cast album comes to life before our eyes.

As with many glamorous 1920s musicals there are big company song and dance numbers, "famous" stars who need their solos on-stage, and love-struck starlets trying to make it in show business. The plot is relatively simple and easy to follow as the Man in Chair provides commentary. The trouble starts when the young actress, Janet Van De Graaff, decides to quit show business and marry a man she met on a whimsy. Quitting show business would mean big financial trouble for her boss Mr. Feldzieg, owner of the Feldzieg Follies, who also happens to owe money to a gangster. Then there is Janet's loopy chaperone who is supposed to keep her away from the groom until the actual wedding. Mix-ups, mischief and mayhem and ensue.

This production does not miss a beat with the big company numbers such as "Show Off," "Toledo Surprise," and "I Do, I Do in the Sky." You won't be disappointed as you are transported into a dazzling fantasy of a play-within-a-play crammed full of every cliche, gag and gimmick from the golden age of musicals.

We're on stage just for only TWO WEEKENDS and this is sure to be a great show FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY. So please come out and support me and my cast mates in this amazing musical production. Arrive early for best seats; or get your advance "reserved seats" (available 24 hours in advance of showtime); we're expecting large audiences and most shows do sell out.
