The concept driving the Body Rampant's debut LP, "Midnight Mayfair," is a doozy. The 2013 full-length release by the Los Angeles-based quintet follows a character that dies in the opening song--only to recollect the story of his life in subsequent tracks. While the story arc is certainly David Lynch-esque, and the twisted, Pablo-Picasso-on-angel-dust masks the band regularly wears are downright terrifying, the music is ripe for radio airplay. It's reminiscent of the rich and sonically diverse prog-punk sounds found on He Is Legend's I Am Hollywood. Precision finger-tapped harmonies and tricky-yet-accessible rhythmic gymnastics make for a most propulsive 10-song-set.
