Founder and Artistic Director Claudia Anata Hubiak presents world premiere
“Homebody” and dance film “By My Side.” “HomeBody” is an evening length
work that explores the nuances of comfort and support of being “at home” within
the physical self. Arising from Artistic Director Claudia Hubiak’s recent
experience of becoming a mother, Homebody examines the spiritual and
biological body and its ability to house a human being. Set to an original score by
Kyle Olson, this world premiere breathes inside Nicole VanMalder’s luminous
"bone installation” set design creating a glowing environment where five dancers
of the Anata Project reside.
“By My Side” (film) peeks into the window of a couple’s living room as they await a baby boy. Claudia Anata Hubiak addresses pregnancy in the intimate, arduous and tender stages of growth in this new dance film about starting a family.
Claudia is choreographer and filmmaker based in San Francisco. She completed
her undergraduate studies in dance at University of California, Santa Barbara,
and holds an M.F.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography from New York
University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied on full scholarship
Dean’s Fellowship and was honored with the position of Graduate Student
Assistant in Film for Dance.
Hubiak was the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Spring Artist in Residence in
2015, creating a commissioned work for the museum, teaching children’s classes
on dance and mindfulness, and holding open rehearsals for museum members.
Claudia currently teaches choreography at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts
(SOTA) in San Francisco and has recently founded the Anata Wellness Outreach
Program dedicated to bringing dance, meditation and somatic practices
throughout the Bay Area.
