Tessa Seymour & Miles Graber at the Maybeck

SEE EVENT DETAILS
London-based cellist Tessa Seymour returns to the Maybeck Studio to give a recital with pianist Miles Graber in a programme that will feature works of the 20th-century cello-piano repertoire, including music by composers Shostakovich, Pärt, and Poulenc, among others.

Tessa Seymour made her televised Carnegie Hall debut in 2006 and has since been performing in Europe, Asia and the US, both as soloist and a chamber musician. Committed to a repertoire that cuts across genres and brings to life contemporary and established works alike, she has collaborated with and premiered the works of Matthias Pintscher, Krzysztof Penderecki, John Adams, David Ludwig, and Richard Danielpour. Her performances have been heard on WHYY-TV, PBS, as well as NPR, WQXR, and WRTI radio, TEDTalks, VICE, and often appears on BBC Radio 3 In Tune as a “BBC Introducing” artist. Tessa is the recipient of, among others, the Verbier Festival's "Jean-Nicolas Firmenich" prize for cello, and was named a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar in 2010. Among her festival appearances are the Verbier Festival, Napa Valley's Festival del Sole, the Dresden Music Festival, and BBC’s 2019 Latitude Festival.

Miles Graber received his musical training at the Juilliard School. He has performed with numerous artists, including Sarah Chang, Cho-Liang Lin, Camilla Wicks, Axel Strauss, Mimi Stillman, Judith LeClair, Frederica von Stade, Martha Aarons, and Lev Polyakin. Graber has been associated with such organizations as the New Century Chamber Orchestra, Midsummer Mozart, the Oakland-East Bay Symphony, the Berkeley Symphony, the Santa Rosa Symphony, Oakland Lyric Opera, Berkeley Opera, Opera San Jose, and the California Symphony. His accompanying posts include the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the San Domenico Conservatory, the Irving M. Klein International String Competition, the Summer Brass Institute, the Mondavi Young Artist Competition, and Northern California Flute Camp. He is a member of the Alcyone Ensemble, MusicAEterna, the GGR Trio, the Sor Ensemble, and the new music group Sounds New.
