Terra Art Collective: Ecolibrium

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Exhibition: 8/27/2022 to 10/2/2022
Reception: Saturday 8/27, 3:00 to 5:00

Today, people are ever more aware of humanity's dire impact on the larger natural world as the signs of environmental collapse are being delivered to our own front doors--the climate crisis, the health impacts of pervasive toxic pollution, the accelerated emergence of dangerous pathogens, and the increasing scarcity of food, water and energy. The Earth's equilibrium is dysfunctional due to our ever-expanding appetite for resources, and energy. Globally, we are on a trajectory that threatens the entire biosphere, including our own survival.

The title of our show, Ecolibrium, suggests the need for a global, societal revolution to create a new state of harmony with the larger natural world. People with greater resources must consume less, move less, and learn to enjoy lives that help create a balanced relationship with a thriving biosphere. This will also help disadvantaged people in America and around the world to prosper, rather than continue to bear the brunt of our ecological folly.

Terra Art Collective's art strives to bring new visions, information, and engagement with these urgent issues. We strive to create art to help us envision a new ecological balance--satisfying human needs while fostering a vital, productive biosphere.

This exhibit features Terra Art Collective, a group of eco artists, including:

Shannon Amidon employs molten beeswax and ephemera to explore the cycles of life, calling attention to its transitory and fragile nature.

Michele Guieu, collapse-aware interdisciplinary artist, creates ephemeral art installations in natural environments and public spaces that aim to bring awareness to the systemic and catastrophic ecological crises we face today and the urgent necessity to reconnect with the natural world.

Leah Jay utilizes the natural qualities of water-based media on paper to capture the sacred and transformational nature of the living world.

Deborah Kennedy creates conceptually based installations, paintings, and an award-winning book reflecting on the sixth mass extinction and the regenerative power of the biosphere that supports each of our lives.
