Healing Through Music
TERENCE BLANCHARD E-COLLECTIVE
A world-renowned trumpeter who cut his teeth with Lionel Hampton and Art Blakey, Terence Blanchard is one of the giants of today's jazz world. But his trumpet work is just one aspect of his immense talent. He has also composed the scores to more than 40 films, including every Spike Lee movie since Jungle Fever and George Lucas' Red Tails. With a handful of Grammys to his name, the New Orleans-born and -based Blanchard has raised the bar for jazz artists and composers, all the while staying true to his roots as a performer.
"Writing for film is fun," he told one interviewer, "but nothing can beat being a jazz musician, playing a club, playing a concert."
