Tension: A System-wide Issue

SEE EVENT DETAILS
TWO-PART WORKSHOP Second session meets Tuesday, June 26, same time.
Tension, stiffness and slouching are not local physical problems, but always system-wide issues. Basic and long-lived patterns of habit often interfere with enjoyment and progress. Explore the relationship between everyday habits of movement and habits on the mat. Deepen your knowledge of sustainable and intelligent alignment according to our innate human design, on and off the mat. This will help you avoid injuries and pains connected with habitual mis-use of the body.
Come learn about:
• The patterns that typically create tension
• How to detect them in yourself
• Strategies to avoid injuries due to habitual mis-use of the body
In the first part, learn to identify habitual tension patterns on and off the mat.
In the second part, apply the new-found knowledge to asana practice and situations from day-to-day life.
This is a very practical, hands-on workshop.
Space is limited. Please pre-register. Maximum 8 students.

Flora D.H. Ojanen
Flora D.H. Ojanen (walkinbalance.net) is an AmSAT-certified Alexander Technique teacher, a Yoga Alliance-certified yoga teacher, and ergonomic consultant. She holds private lessons in the Alexander Technique at her office in San Francisco’s Union Square District and group sessions onsite at Bay Area companies and yoga studios. Flora investigates Alexander Technique applications for the practice of yoga and has developed a yoga program called Alexander Yoga (alexanderyoga.net), to bring that expertise to the yoga community. Flora believes in the potential of the Alexander Technique to ease and prevent the leading influence of all disease: stress. In teaching sessions, Flora identifies creative ways to help students develop their own healing potential through self-awareness and self-guidance that they can apply to every aspect of their lives.
