Tattoo artist Tex Buss will share stories and anecdotes from years of tattooing and provide insights into the exhibition "Lew the Jew and His Circle: Origins of American Tattoo."
Tex Buss has been tattooing in San Francisco for nearly a quarter century. She moved from Scotland, where she began tattooing punk rockers. San Francisco offered no shortage of punks that needed tattoos, and she was lucky enough to be a young artist during the heyday of the 90's Bay Area tattoo explosion. Buss has been a guest artist in tattoo studios in Europe, New Zealand, and the United States, and has traveled widely for conventions. Her work is illustrative and figurative, leans towards the neotraditional, and often features elements from the natural world. She is especially fond of animals and birds. For the last decade, Buss has owned and operated a shop in the city.
