Tanya Tagaq’s music isn’t like anything you’ve heard before.
Unnerving and exquisite, Tagaq’s unique vocal expression is rooted in Inuit throat singing but her music has as much to do with electronica, industrial, and musical metal influences, as well as performance art as it does with traditional culture. Tagaq is well known for her collaborations with Bjork and Kronos Quartet, and has held sold out performances at YBCA in the past. This November, we present two distinct programs and an intimate artist talk with this incredible artist who beat out Drake AND the Arcade Fire for a Polaris Music Prize in 2014, makes headlines for her fearless defense of Inuit hunting traditions, and was named to the 2015 YBCA 100.
