Silky-smooth rhythm and blues that will give you goose bumps.
Singing professionally since she was 16, Tanya Scarlett got her break working with artists from all over the Bay Area, including opening for Joe Cocker. After touring Japan for six months, she started her own group in Northern California. Timothy B. Schmidt from the Eagles saw her playing in a club in Sacramento and offered her session work in Los Angeles. Once there, she recorded with Schmidt, as well as Jackson Brown and Rita Coolidge. A friend introduced her to Grammy Award–winning gospel singer Andre Crouch and that’s when she began to really understand the soul stirring gospel music that she so loved growing up. Soon after, she was hired as a gospel style backup singer for Michael Bolton on his hit single “Love is a Wonderful Thing.” She had regular gigs at Café Largo in Los Angeles. Tanya did session work for Paul Anka and spots on the hit TV show Married with Children, as well as a movie soundtrack for Bobcat Goldthwaite’s Shakes the Clown. If you like stylish, fresh jazz and blues, listen to Tanya and her A Team. The goose ¬bumps go away eventually! The Drama-Logue in Los Angeles wrote of her: “On stage she easily lassos her audience with a personality as comfortable and delectable as a favorite slipper.” L.A. Weekly described her as “…an incredible, soulful singer who will rip your heart out… and give it back—maybe—at the end of the night.”
