Lyric soprano Maria Valdes, "a star in the making," opens the Symphony's final program as soloist in Samuel Barber's haunting masterpiece, Knoxville Summer of 1915. Added soloists, three choirs and the full orchestra then join her in Carl Orff's exuberant cantata Carmina Burana, based on medieval poems and songs celebrating the sensual life, deploring fate - and bringing our 2022-23 season to a rousing close.
