Berlioz's magnificent Symphonie fantastique paints a lively picture of the life of an artist who revels and despairs over an unrequited love. Carnival scenes, pastoral interludes, and ghastly dances with witches and sorcerers make this among the most vibrant orchestral music ever written. Also on the program, Jeremy Denk brings his "rhapsodic and poetic" artistry (The New York Times) to Bartók's grandiose and brilliant Second Piano Concerto.
