SYD STRAW and friends + GRAHAM NORWOOD ~

SEE EVENT DETAILS
SYD STRAW and friends + GRAHAM NORWOOD ~ Wednesday, April 3$15 ~ 7:00pm - 9:45pmVocalist, singer/songwriter, and guitarist Syd Straw first made a name for herself as part of the Golden Palominos, a band led by Anton Fier that enjoyed a cult following in the 1980s. Her Capricorn Records debut, War and Peace, was released in 1996, and since then, her unique blend of folk-rock and blues-rock has found a home with Triple A (adult album alternative) radio stations and their audiences around the country. Straw released Surprise in 1990 to good reviews. That recording chronicled Straw's emergence as a songwriter; she had thought of herself primarily as a song interpreter before that. On Surprise, Straw was joined by Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), John Doe (X), Ry Cooder, Daniel Lanois, Don Was, Richard Thompson, and Marshall Crenshaw.Graham Norwood writes, plays and sings songs of uncommon beauty. His 3-1/2 octave vocal range, dynamic guitar playing, and eclectic songwriting chops allow him to work in a wide range of styles while always preserving his own unique artistic voice. That he has been legally blind from birth only makes these talents more remarkable. After spending years as a New York sideman and producer with the likes of Bryan Scary, Cliff Westfall, Ward White, The Dough Rollers and others, Graham decided to focus on writing and recording his own original music. His first move as a solo artist was to record three sets of songs written and arranged for three separate bands, exploring a wide variety of different sounds and genres. One of these sessions, recorded by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Antony & the Johnsons, Evan Dando, Phish) and mixed by John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Son Volt, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr), became Graham's debut full-length, Out of the Sea. The album is slated for a late 2019 release. But first, Graham is releasing a four-song EP called Sundry Songs, available first digitally and later in limited edition 12" vinyl and CD formats.http://www.sydstrawmusic.comhttps://www.facebook.com/grahamnorwoodmusic/makeoutroom.com/events
