Join historian and retired park ranger John Martini on a one-hour walk exploring the ruins of the legendary Sutro Baths. The Baths visit will include a walk downhill into the ruins and the mysterious tunnels through Point Lobos, followed by an uphill climb to the old Sky Tram overlook where we’ll see Sutro's still-functioning 1880s catch basin that trapped Pacific waves and sent roiling seawater to the Baths. Then we’ll follow the edge of Lands End to see the wreck sites of the freighters Ohioan, Lyman Stewart, and Frank Buck. If the tides are kind, we should be able to see part of the Ohioan's remains above the water.
On this walk, thanks to the company and guidance of Martini, we'll learn all about this hidden history. A native San Franciscan and lifelong researcher into the history of California and the American West, Martini is now an independent consultant specializing in historical research. He appears regularly on PBS, the History Channel, A&E Network, and National Geographic Channel.
