On April 3-4, 2017, hundreds of crime survivors will join state and community leaders in California’s state capitol for the largest gathering of crime victims in the United States. Held annually during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Survivors Speak brings together crime survivors, particularly from communities most affected by crime, to share stories, honor loved ones, and advocate for smart justice policies that transform our families, communities and the state.
The theme of Survivors Speak 2017 will be “From Healing to Action,†placing survivors at the center of a powerful movement to win new safety priorities. The event will feature regional chapter events across California in March and April 2017; a Survivors Speak Bus to the Capitol, with attendees traveling by bus from their respective regions to arrive in Sacramento on April 3; a march through downtown Sacramento; and a rally at California State Capitol calling for new safety priorities, with remarks from policy and movement leaders and resources on healing and advocacy, on April 4.
