Sure Fire Soul Ensemble
The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble is a heavy, original, instrumental soul band based in San Diego. They draw influence from the masters of the style from the past and modern day, including: The Meters, Isaac Hayes, El Michels Affair, Mulatu Astatke, Budos Band, The Nite Liters, Menahan Street Band, Fela Kuti, and The Poets of Rhythm. In June of 2015 they released their debut self titled album on Colemine Records. The album was very well received and made many "Best of 2015" lists including Reddit, Staf Magazine, and KMHD. The album also won a San Diego Music Award. SFSE has shared the stage with Lee Fields and the Expressions, New Mastersounds, Monophonics, Kamasi Washington, and many other touring bands. They perform live regularly all over California and beyond.
North Beach Brass Band
San Francisco's homegrown North Beach Brass Band is both a traditional brass band playing early jazz and show standards and an electrified post-bebop funk/jazz act playing classic groove jazz riffs. The lineup of sax, trumpet, trombone, tuba, bass drum, snare drum covers a wide array of genres for any taste, including New Orleans classics in the spirit of Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty, Dr. John, Kid Ory and more. This versatile group of San Francisco's best brass men do it all, from Louis Armstrong's favorites to danceable versions of great hits from artists like James Brown, War, Hugh Masakela, The Meters, Jobim, Miles Davis and dozens more. The band can lead a second-line march, do a surprise appearance at any event, play fanfares at ceremonies and get folks dancing anytime. Get get a brass band in the mix and everyone starts smiling!
