Mardi Gras San Francisco Style and Super Community Celebrations in the Fillmore

"Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore" returns with free blues concerts & Game Week Festival

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Village Project will add a pre-Mardi Gras Celebration: “Super Community in The Fillmore” to its annual Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore. The 10th annual Mardi Gras San Francisco Style with great music, creative costumes, good food and colorful beads, will include a free Super Community concert in the Fillmore Center Plaza on Saturday, February 6th. The festive celebration will resume on Fat Tuesday, February 9th with a free blues party, a New Orleans style processional and culminate with a masquerade ball.

The two day festival will again bring San Francisco's historic Fillmore Music District to life with blues, a colorful family friendly carnival atmosphere, along with face painting, street artists and performers. Tia Carroll will blast out soulful tunes, from 4 to 9 p.m. on opening day, Feb. 6th. Starting at 5 pm, legendary blues artists Bobbie "Spider" Webb and Alvon Johnson will headline Fat Tuesday’s activities (Feb. 9th), along with a New Orleans style processional down the Fillmore Corridor followed by the annual Masquerade Ball at West Bay Conference Center at 7 pm.

Guests will be able to enjoy food, drink and other specialties at numerous Fillmore restaurants, clubs and businesses. A plethora of eclectic delectable eats will be available to satisfy every palate -- whether it's coffee and sports at the Fillmore Café, homemade cookies and ice cream at Bumzy's Cookies and Miyako Ice Cream; Bruno's Italian, mouth- watering sandwiches from Prime Dip or Ethiopian cuisine & Jazz from Sheba Piano Lounge. Brooklyn Circus is “in the house”, lending “a New York influence to their line of clothes. Let’s not forget The Historical Fillmore Auditorium keeping music alive in the “hood”. Teri's Creation and Hats on Fillmore will have 20% off specials throughout the week.

"With all of the excitement and activities happening throughout San Francisco during the Mardi Gras, we are excited to add “The Big Game” component to this year's celebration as we are expecting visitors from the Fillmore District and beyond," said Adrian Williams, executive director of The Village Project and co-producer of the event. "Not only does our annual Mardi Gras celebration include what people look for in the traditional New Orleans celebrations, it continues to embrace the history of this neighborhood -- where music has been intertwined into the fabric of everyday life for more than 100 years. With the help of Super Bowl 50 Host Committee, San Francisco Travel and Soul America, we expect to attract tourists to The Fillmore, one of the most historical neighborhoods in San Francisco, for an evening filled with fun and community”.

Following the outdoor festivities, the Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball will take place at the West Bay Conference Center, at 1290 Fillmore. The crown jewel of San Francisco's Fat Tuesday celebration will feature Alvon Johnson & Band and DJ, Mr. "C", spinning dance tunes, as guests enjoy an evening of New Orleans style cuisine, dancing to Zydeco and rhythm and blues, and plenty of partying.

Advance purchase tickets for the Masquerade Ball are available at https://www.eventbrite.com. Ticket price include admission to the ball, dinner, beads, a wristband for corridor specials and a beverage.

The purchase of a $10 wristband will allow those not attending the ball to enjoy specials offered by numerous Fillmore restaurants, clubs and businesses along the Fillmore Corridor. Tickets and wristbands can be purchased @ https://www.eventbrite.com.
