Bane Gallery presents "Sunset Backed'" a series of mycelium-based works by Philip McGaughy that explore growth as a method of making. Using his "compression grid" process, McGaughy guides fungal development through patterned pressure, producing surfaces marked by circular formations, ruptures, and density shifts. Each piece combines mycelium structured textile with wood armature and fluorescent backing, allowing light to subtly activate the wall behind the work. Positioned between sculpture and living system, the works challenge conventional fabrication by treating material as something grown and negotiated rather than imposed or extracted. Opening Reception: Saturday, April 11, 6:00-9:00 pm, 65 Capp Street, San Francisco
