Sunday Sessions Songwriter's Circle feature a Powerhouse Female Lineup

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Throckmorton’s Sunday Sessions Songwriter’s Circle features some of the best musicians in the Bay Area music scene. June 11th Songwriter’s Circle features a powerful all female lineup: Olivia Davis, Mari Mack Tamburo, Willow Van Den Hoek, and Madeleine King. The talented Dore Coller will host the evening and kick it off with a song of his own.

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

Olivia Davis
With her debut album, Olivia Davis holds her own alongside classic singer-songwriters by creating her own blend of folk, alt-country, and American roots music. Honest and well crafted, these songs reflect deeply personal stories yet remain universally relatable.

Olivia was born and raised in the Bay Area, and was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when she was one year old. Her struggle with the disease has provided an inspiration for her song writing, and she explores themes such as claiming one’s identity and celebrating the preciousness of life. She has been faced with difficult challenges and life-and-death realities at an unusually young age, and these experiences add depth and wisdom to her lyrics. Her music resonates with hopeful optimism, and her story is an inspiration.

Mari Mack Tamburo
Mari “Mari Mack” Tamburo started singing as a toddler, indoctrinated with love for jazz and big band by her father; blues, rock, gospel and R&B from her older siblings. Before the age of 18, she was paying her dues, singing rock, R&B and blues in clubs all over the NY area. In 1987, after totaling her car post late night gig, she decided to pack her things and drive out to CA in time to attend the Northern California Songwriters Conference. In July of 2010, shortly after her first Mari Mack CD release, she found her music career take a sharp turn toward local politics in semi-rural Homestead Valley, then a run for District 4 Supervisor in 2017. When asked, Mari states her music is influenced by life and a love for people and the planet. Her song “Indivisible” is slated for the WCSA song competition finals in August.

Willow Van Den Hoek
My life in music is essentially a story of People. Beginning in a church choir, I learned the magic of harmony & arrangement in singing. After growing up in Los Angeles, people always ask “who have you sung with? who do you sound like? what’s your bag? what record bin do you fit into?” The beauty of experience blooms with multiple opportunities for a magical, musical worldview as I have traveled many paths.

After I left the choir, I had a blast traveling, hitching & busking around Europe, Morocco & Turkey singing & playing with my trusty guitar. In Bordeaux, I was taught to play spoons by the incredible Florentine Deraime. Continuing to ramble upon my return to the good ol’ USA, I became a street musician for a couple years in a 5-piece band; then met Ramblin’ Jack Elliott – a cowboy-folkie era link with my beloved John Herald, who was already famous as a member of the Greenbriar Boys and for whom Robert Zimmerman was an opening act!

All this led to my recording for Bonnie Raitt, as well as working with, sharing stages with and recording with many talented artists such as Jackson Browne, Tom Waits, Harry Nilsson, Nicolette Larson, David Bromberg, Maria Muldaur, Doug Dillard, Norman Greenbaum, Bill Keith & Mimi Farina.

It’s been a wonderful ride so far, and I’m always excited and interested in the great new music being created by our up-and-coming newest talents! Put me on any playlist you like … The Beat Goes On!

Madeleine King
Madeleine King is a singer/songwriter whose music and personality form an instant bond with her audience. Her Midwestern roots and longtime California home base have found their way into her music, resulting in a mature, eclectic style. Madeleine’s original music covers a wide range, from soul-touching love songs to blues and jazz-infused, get-up-on-your-feet-and-dance tunes. Primarily a vocalist and guitarist, Madeleine also is proficient on the mandolin. While she plays solo and with other groups here and there, Madeleine’s most current musical project is working with her friend Rick Meissner in the band they formed, King & Ace.
