ABOUT DEREK EVANS

Singer Derek Evans is a product of a lush musical environment that swells with the cultural diversity that only a city like San Francisco can provide.

His love for music grew from his early childhood, when he was a small child, back in Hickory, Mississippi, where he sat in his grandmother’s lap as she sang and played the piano, leading the inspirational choir in the soul stirring syncopated rhythms, dynamic vibratos, and emotional crescendos delivered every Sunday to the congregation of True Light Baptist Church.

As a teenager, inspired by the blend of church and secular music created by Ray Charles, Derek plunged head first into the rich musical diversity of San Francisco and developed a deep appreciation for the differences in people, their needs, joys and struggles. His love for diversity embraces many styles of music. He is equally at home with a jazz standard, a country tune, blues, pop, funk, rock and roll or soul, exploring music new and old. A Soulful singer with an impressive voice, Derek Evans has been the much loved lead vocalist for Saxophone Great Jules Broussard’s band for over 20 years.
