“Sunday Garnish”
lawn sculptures by Daniel Jefferies
One-day only!
Sunday, July 14 2013, 2-9pm
The garnish is the superfluous object possessing innate neglect.
For this show, Daniel Jefferies has created site-specific sculptures for the lawn of a house currently occupied by City Limits curator Evan Reiser. The works reflect the ignored upkeep of gardens and lawns, the decorum of any neighborhood’s community and wealth, as they slip into suburban decay.
Jefferies’ objects reference trademarks of high society, such as English gardens, topiaries, leisure activities, and urban landscaping, but they also highlight the disparities between native and invasive species, or form and function.
At the exhibition opening, Jefferies will be preparing mojitos and sangria. He invites the audience to sit and unwind or take up a game of croquet to be played through and around the sculptures.
Daniel Jefferies (b. Stockholm, Sweden) is a visual artist working in various disciplines, including painting, sculpture and video. Jefferies, a 2012 MFA graduate of San Francisco Art Institute, lives and works in the Mission District of San Francisco.
