Summer of Love Dance Party

SEE EVENT DETAILS
What’s more counterculture than a dance party in a gothic cathedral? Come to Grace Cathedral to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love by dancing in the aisles to classics from 1967 and modern tunes inspired by the artistic spirit of that era—courtesy of the Make It Funky DJs and Mad Alchemy’s liquid light show. Be sure to wear flowers in your hair!
Admission is $5 in advance, $10 at the door.
About Make it Funky Make It Funky believes in crowd pleasing engagement, the call and return. We believe that the funk is a vibe that goes beyond the music and beyond the party. The funk is a sort of radiation of positive energy from a person’s body, an insistent rhythm appealing to various carnal qualities. Maybe funk is the difference between a group of people playing music and a party. Whatever it is, Make It Funky keeps it funky, but with one exception – the Funky train doesn’t go off the tracks. This train goes and goes; a churnin’ urn of burnin’ funk, slow without a hurry in the world; a steamrolling groove machine that’s still on time, always keeping heads nodding and two feet stepping.
About Mad Alchemy  Mad Alchemy is an analog liquid light show — a dramatic montage of color always moving and changing in the great San Francisco tradition of Bill Hamm, Glen Mckay and Brotherhood of Light from the heyday of the Bay Area’s psychedelic ballrooms. Principal Lance Gordon has been involved with this art form since 1971 and learned the essence of liquid projections from a former member of the Brotherhood of Light. Mad Alchemy has toured the US and Europe, performing in iconic venues like the Forum in London, the Trianon in Paris, Irving Plaza in New York and the Fillmore in San Francisco. Mad Alchemy has performed with top bands in psych rock and other genres, and Lance Gordon has shared the stage with the likes of Big Brother and the Holding Company, John Lee Hooker, Boz Skaggs and Tower of Power.
