This course will focus on art that examines our physical and mental relationships to architecture and the environment. Students will be introduced to the light and space movement, land art, and contemporary artists who deal directly with architecture, space and experience. Weekly readings combined with brief lectures will serve as the basis for class discussion and provide inspiration for your personal projects. Readings will include writings from the fields of art, architecture, and philosophy and will cover both the impact of experiential art in the art community as well as the influences that lie behind the work. The course will also include two off-campus field trips.
