SEE EVENT DETAILS
SCREENPRINTING: DIY AESTHETICSKaitlin Trataris8 sessions >> Saturdays, June 17-August 1212-3pm, Studios 1 + 2, $350No prerequisite.
This course uses screenprinting techniques to mobilize artworks into new forms and functions with a focus on textile printing. Students will unlock the flexibility of screenprinting to make printed images that can be transformed into a multitude of functional and non-functional objects alike. The class will elaborate on alternative materials and approaches to screenprinting, its history within DIY culture, activism and the mobility of multiples in art. Students will gain a foundation of technical screenprinting skills through manual and digital stencil making techniques (sharpie, paper cutting, rubylith, ink, resist painting, and digital halftone), preparation and caring for screens, single and multicolor registration, and printing on alternative surfaces. Through in-class demonstrations and studio time, students will have the flexibility to try out new processes while pursuing their own project ideas throughout the entirety of the course.
