SUMMER 2017 — Introductory Drawing Workshop

INTRODUCTORY DRAWING WORKSHOP

No prerequisite.
This three session drawing workshop offers students an opportunity to explore in depth the major concepts related to representational drawing. Steps in understanding observation and recording what is seen will be presented in a sequence of exercises using a variety of traditional and non-traditional drawing methods. Drawing in graphite, charcoal, and ink will be introduced. Assignments will be designed to benefit both beginning and more advanced students. Sketchbooks will play an active role in learning drawing skills

Sheila Ghidini was born in Connecticut.  She attended Hartford Art School, University of Hartford and did graduate work at Cranbrook Academy of Art. She completed an M.F.A. in sculpture at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving the Sylvan and Pam Coleman Memorial Fellowship.  She was an artist-in residence at The Headlands Center for the Arts and The American Academy in Rome.  She has received grants from the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation, the Krasner-Pollack Foundation, the San Francisco Arts Commission, the Marcelle Labaudt Memorial Fund, Rockefeller Foundation and the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.  She has taught art throughout the Bay Area, most recently at University of California, Berkeley, California College of Arts, San Francisco State University and University of California Extensions.  Sheila is represented by Chandra Cerrito Contemporary, Oakland, CA.

What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class?Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. Materials lists are available approximately two weeks prior to the course start date. Visit the SFAI website here, click on your course title, and then click on the blue "Materials List" link underneath the course dates. If you have any questions regarding materials, please contact Public Education Staff.What are my transport/parking options getting to San Francisco Art Institute?All classes meet at 800 Chestnut Street, between Jones and Leavenworth. You can find directions to campus on the SFAI website.
SFAI is located in a residential neighborhood, and free two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. The two-hour restriction cuts off at 9 pm, so evening Public Education students do not need to move their car, unless you arrive prior to 7 pm.SFAI is easily accessible via public transportation, with Muni bus lines #30 Stockton, and #47 Van Ness located within a few blocks of campus.Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?SFAI Public Education Staff are always happy to answer any questions you may have about the Public Education program, or our courses.
