INTRODUCTION TO OIL PAINTING ON CANVASAlice Gould10 sessions >> Wednesdays, June 7-August 96:30-9:30 pm | Studio 115 | $480
No prerequisite.
Supportive demonstrations will introduce basic tools and methods for creating oil paintings on canvas. In-class assignments will include still life, landscape, portrait, and abstraction. We will investigate the use of mediums and solvents, and discuss color, style, scale, and intent. Homework practice and gentle critiques will reinforce learning as you gain confidence in your painting abilities and artistic voice in this medium. ___
Alice Gould received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the Nova Scotia College or Art and Design, both in the field of Painting. She moved to San Francisco after attending RISD and returned again after grad school, participating in shows at Adobe Books and other local venues as a member of the vital community of artists in the Mission District. Adventure and wilderness exploration have guided her from city to country to wilderness, and back again. Nature informs her work: large oil canvases and spirited gouache works-on-paper are homages to life forces, weather, plant dynamism, and paint itself. What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class?Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. Materials lists are available approximately two weeks prior to the course start date. Visit the SFAI website here, click on your course title, and then click on the blue "Materials List" link underneath the course dates. If you have any questions regarding materials, please contact Public Education Staff.What are my transport/parking options getting to San Francisco Art Institute?All classes meet at 800 Chestnut Street, between Jones and Leavenworth. You can find directions to campus on the SFAI website.
SFAI is located in a residential neighborhood, and free two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. The two-hour restriction cuts off at 9 pm, so evening Public Education students do not need to move their car, unless you arrive prior to 7 pm.SFAI is easily accessible via public transportation, with Muni bus lines #30 Stockton, and #47 Van Ness located within a few blocks of campus.Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?SFAI Public Education Staff are always happy to answer any questions you may have about the Public Education program, or our courses.
