This introductory digital photography course will provide you with a solid foundation of how to use and get the most out of your digital camera. Personal assignments will give you in-class experience of camera operations, basic editing skills in Adobe Photoshop, and knowledge of contemporary photographers working in the medium. Each class will combine lecture/discussion, hands-on demonstrations, and studio time for you to complete projects and get individualized instruction and feedback to further your personal photographic voice. ___ Tom Loughlin is a 2013 graduate of SFAI’s MFA program in New Genres. He is a studio artist at the Minnesota Street Project, and was previously an affiliate artist at the Headlands Center for the Arts. He has shown at The Lab and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts among other venues, and has been awarded eleven tons of steel from the old east span of the Bay Bridge by the Oakland Museum of California to make a public art piece for Treasure Island. Loughlin is also a graduate of U.C. Berkeley’s School of Law, and has had a plaintiff-side practice in intellectual property and products liability.

What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class?Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. Materials lists are available approximately two weeks prior to the course start date. SFAI is located in a residential neighborhood, and free two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. The two-hour restriction cuts off at 9 pm, so evening Public Education students do not need to move their car, unless you arrive prior to 7 pm.SFAI is easily accessible via public transportation, with Muni bus lines #30 Stockton, and #47 Van Ness located within a few blocks of campus.Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?SFAI Public Education Staff are always happy to answer any questions you may have about the Public Education program, or our courses.
