'Strangely Familiar Forms, Receding From View' by Ryan Fontaine: Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Four Barrel Coffee is pleased to present Strangely Familiar Forms, Receding From View by Ryan Fontaine. 45 year old artist/musician Ryan Fontaine lives and works between San Francisco and Minneapolis, where he runs a contemporary art gallery, HAIRandNAILS, with his partner dancer/choreographer Kristin Van Loon. A self taught artist, his work embodies many of the skills and approaches he acquired in his years working in various trades. From house painting to carpentry, plumbing, electric and digging ditches, it's all in the mix somehow. All part of a confluence of conflicts and cohesions that come together to create work that reaches across a range of mediums and strategies, from painting to sculpture to something in between. The foundational theme of his work is an exploration of how images and objects are created, reference and inform each other. Through an accumulation of formal and conceptual echo and decay elements, this art attempts to call into question some of our perceptual anchors in indirect and unexpected ways. Almost as if it is a simulacrum of something that never quite existed. It's not meant to be tricky, but it is meant to show us how we don't always know what we think we know. Join us on Friday December 2 from 6-8pm for the opening reception. Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance.

Four Barrel is a cafe and roastery that has been supporting artists with exhibitions since 2008. This exhibition is free and open to the public. Four Barrel Coffee is located at 375 Valencia Street in San Francisco, and is open daily from 7am until 8pm. Four Barrel may be reached at [email protected].
