Please join us in celebrating the culmination of Kadi Franson's summer artist residency. She will be presenting a series of visual works on wood and paper, using primarily gouache, watercolor, iridescent pigment, and glitter.
About the work:
Through a 'responsive doodling' technique - a type of automatic drawing that enables a headspace somewhere in-between automation and hyperfocus, Kadi has constructed a labyrinthine realm of new linework.
In art, in yoga, in meditation, whispered about in the back conscious hallways of myriad forms of expressive practice, one seeks the elusive “flow state.” In this mythical yet pedestrian place, it is rumored that time takes on a dimension of it’s own. Familiar panes of reality become singular and kaleidoscopic. Concentrated presence invites awareness to heightened realms, an embodiment of high focus, a snuffing out of all of the extraneous information that makes us distracted, scattered, anxious, bored, and heavy.
This residency has pursued flow into a curious hibernaculum - A delicate and unplanned maze of drawn entanglements into which time has been lured in and left behind. A little something for the inhabitants.
