Stephen Shore: From Galilee to the Negev

SEE EVENT DETAILS
From Galilee to the Negev

With Sandra Phillips, Senior Curator of Photography, SFMOMA

One of the most influential photographers of his generation, Stephen Shore is a pioneer in the use of color photography and was a friend of Andy Warhol. A prodigy whose images have endured, his work continues to challenge. His latest collection, From Galilee to the Negev, explores the complexities and contradictions of Israel and the Palestinian territories of the West Bank. It incorporates texts from a diverse range of writers—including Yossi Klein Halevi, Jane Kramer and Yotam Ottolenghi—who have each selected one photograph as a springboard for sharing their insights.

"[Shore’s] work is Nabokovian for me: Exposing so much, and yet leaving so much room for your imagination to roam and do what it will."
– Tennessee Williams
