The show will come just after the release of 'Old Soul', his first new album in 7+ years. Stephen's new album 'Old Soul' is a heartfelt journey touching upon themes of grief, ancestral ties, and the spiritual links that connect generations. These sentiments hold even more weight in light of the recent tragic passing of his son, Jo Mersa, a topic he's yet to delve into publicly. Tracks like "Cool As A Breeze" and "Old Soul," encapsulate these emotions and sentiments, with support from artists like Eric Clapton, Jack Johnson, and Ziggy Marley. In addition, San Francisco's own Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead collaborated with Stephen on the latest single, "Winding Roads," alongside Jack Johnson. Recorded at Bob Weir's TRI Studios in San Rafael with his Wolf Bros band, which includes Don Was and Dead & Company members Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane, this collaboration strengthens Stephen's ties to the Bay Area.
Considering the depth of the album, the significance of his San Francisco connections, his performance at The Fillmore will undoubtedly be a culmination of his new material's poignant themes, intertwined with the spirit and legacy of San Francisco's storied musical past.
