Benefit Concert & Instrument Drive
To Raise Money for Steindorf’s Music Program
Steindorf Rocks!, a benefit concert for San Jose’s new public Steindorf Steam School, will host an eclectic jam featuring seasoned bay area musicians on Sunday, September 18 from 12-3pm behind the Steindorf campus at Ross and Foxworthy in San Jose.
Councilmember Don Rocha’s office has stepped up to sponsor the concert, along with Cambrian District supporter Xilinx Inc.
The Cambrian School District has a long history of supporting the arts, including an award winning K-8 music program. Thanks to Measure A funds passed in 2001, music teachers are on staff at all seven Cambrian Schools.
As the established Cambrian Middle School, Ida Price has award winning concert, symphonic and marching band programs. Steindorf STEAM School opened this month and while capital funds allowed for the renovation of an existing building to create a new school site, the district does not have the funds currently to buy instruments.
Steindorf ROCKS! is a parent lead benefit concert and instrument drive to raise $25k to buy instruments for K-8 music instruction at Steindorf, including a Full Orff Instrumentarium Classroom Set, Full African Drum Circle Set and Class Set of Hilo Ukuleles. Attendees are asked to bring instruments they would like to donate to the effort and the school will refurbish or trade in pieces for what they need.
“Several very talented musicians have stepped up to help with this effort, because we know first hand how music has changed our lives and improved our education,” says Steindorf Parent and Pearl Alley Band Lead Singer Suzanne St. John-Crane.
Guest musicians include Leo Rosales from Latin Rock band MALO, Greg Kihn Band Bassist Robert Berry, SV Houserockers Frontman Paul Kent, Pearl Alley Band Guitarist David Crane and Keyboardist Pamela Arthur. St. John-Crane will make an appearance as well along with Steindorf Music Teacher Tiffany Barry.
Tickets are on sale for $25 at the gate or at steindorf.3dcartstores.com. Kids in 8th grade and under are free. Concert goers are encouraged to bring a picnic and lawn chairs.
