Steel Drum Concert with Pankind Quartet

SEE EVENT DETAILS
A steel pan band, tasty snacks, and more: it's a free outdoor party for all to celebrate the beginning of the summer season at the Menlo Park Library!
Summer vacation is coming, and at the Menlo Park Library that means fun events &
learning opportunities for all ages. We’re celebrating with a free party, and you are invited!

After the library closes at 6, join us outside on the lawn. Derek Smith & Pankind Quartet will be playing some Caribbean-style beats; Café Zoë Menlo Park will be offering up some free beverages & treats; our favorite balloon artist, Räúl Gonzalez, will be twisting up some fun; and you can pick up some bubbles and add to the mood! While you are there, you'll get the chance to find out about all the other special events that will be happening over the summer, and summer reading & learning fun for adults, teens, and children--even pre-readers.

About Derek Smith & Pankind Quartet
San Francisco Bay Area Musician Derek Smith has been entertaining audiences for more than 10 years through his innovative music that combines the melodic brightness of the Caribbean steel drum with the driving rhythms of Latin Jazz. Smith's unique sound is inspired by legendary musicians like mambo king Tito Puente, Latin Jazz vibraphone great Cal Tjader, and calypso master Lord Kitchener. The influence of such renown players has led Smith to create an original musical experience that can be described as soulful and joyous.
